Geology / History
Okenite is a silicate mineral usually associated with Zeolites. Normally found as small white "snow ball" formations within basalt geodes. These formations are clusters of straight, radiating, fibrous crystals that are both bendable & fragile.
Named after German naturalist Lorenz Oken (1779–1851).
Minerals associated with okenite include Apophyllite, Gyrolite, Prehnite, Chalcedony, Goose Creekite & many other Zeolites. Okenite is mainly found in India within the state of Maharashtra.
