Geology/History
Spinel is a crystal commonly found in octahedra form with many possible colours, colouring agents are iron, chromium, vanadium & cobalt. The term Spinel refers to both a mineral & a group of metal oxide minerals that share the same crystal structure. Members include Franklinite, Gahnite & Chromite. In early times & up to 150 years ago Spinel was not recognised as a separate mineral to Ruby. The transparent red variety from Afghanistan was known & marketed as “Balas Ruby”. This late separation led to many Spinel gemstones being mistaken for & noted historically as Ruby. Some of the more famous misidentification are the Black Prince's Ruby, the “Timur ruby” in the British Crown jewels & the “Côte de Bretagne” formerly from the French Crown jewels. The Samarian Spinel is famous for its size weighing 500 carats, The Diamond Fund in Moscow owns a Spinel of 400carats.
Spinel is found as a metamorphic mineral & also as a primary mineral in rare mafic igneous rocks. In these igneous rocks the magmas are deficient of alkalis.Aluminium & aluminium oxide may form as the mineral corundum or may combine with magnesia to form Spinel, this is why Spinel & Ruby are often found together.
Spinel, (Mg,Fe)(Al,Cr)2O4, is common in peridotite in the uppermost Earth's mantle, between approximately 20 km to 120 km, possibly to lower depths depending on the chromium content. At significantly shallower depths, above the Moho calcic plagioclase is the more stable aluminous mineral in peridotite. Garnet is the stable phase deeper in the mantle below the spinel stability region.

Metaphysical Properties
The Resurrection stone, brings harmony, balance, growth & new life. Promotes individuality & embracing of ones true self. Provides the courage & stamina to endure the necessary changes required to live a truly authentic & happy life. Spinel initiates & accelerates spiritual growth, unfolding the path to enlightenment. With lessons of the Phoenix it guides through periods of chaos teaching how to build, rise & fly.
Spinel helps to keep the peace both externally & within, it silences a busy mind alleviating the subconscious of negative thought. It protects the auric field from intrusive unwanted energies, giving space for positive energy to flourish. Spinel can either increase or reduce energy this makes it excellent on all spectrums of the vibrational scale from meditation or lucid dreaming to rapid manifestation, energy boosting or accelerated light channeling. It draws energy into the body expanding the energetic field & generating life force energy.
Spinel holds an elemental key capable of harnessing Earth, Air, Fire & Water energies. With the Fire element it renews energy by cleansing & igniting the internal kundalini fire. The Earth link within is powerful & solid it holds alchemical magic & manifestation energies. The Air frequency carries light sequencing & light body activation codes. Water unlocks the wisdom of connectivity, provides connection to all aspects of self, fluidity to facilitate expansion & flexibility of shape shifting.
