Amazonite is a mineral of limited occurrence sometimes called Amazon stone. Amazonite is a green variety of microclinefeldspar, who’s name is taken from that of the Amazon River due to its like colour.
Studies suggest that the blue-green colour results from small quantities of lead and water in the feldspar. Gem variety amazonite is particularly uncommon.
